A delicious, quick soup for Suzanne!!!

My dear friend Suzanne-apuginthekitchen.com is feeling under the weather today! I am writing a soup recipe for her right this minute, hoping she has the simple ingredients (or comparable) to slap it together. Get out the soup pot Suzanne we are cooking together. Add 2 cups cold water, 2 cups chicken/vegetable broth or stock (low sodium is good here), 1 can white beans (have any?), rinse them well, add to pot on medium heat, have a stalk of celery, rinse and diced, add to stock pot, a carrot (peeled) diced, 1/4 onion diced, add black pepper, to taste, if you have tomato paste (one tablespoon) or a can of whole, stewed, diced tomatoes add them (yes, juices and all) stir well, cover and cook on low 15-20 minutes (stir during cooking time). Add any herbs you like, basil, parsley, oregano whatever you have on hand. Garnish with grated pecorino/parmesan/romano whatever cheese you have and maybe a few croutons or crackers or crusty bread!

I want you to feel better for work tomorrow my dear friend! Enjoy!

Bacon Creamy Milk Gravy-Recipe for your morning!

This recipe is so easy and an absolute favorite of my family. I alternate between this and sausage and gravy on biscuits. Each one is delicious!  You can choose to use with English Muffins, Toast, Biscuits whatever you enjoy!

You’ll need only 5 ingredients-easy.

12 ounces pre-cooked Bacon (I use Oscar Meyer brand, any will work) microwave until crispy and then cut into pieces-set aside on a clean work surface.

One cup whole milk, 1 tablespoon all purpose flour, 1/2  cup light cream, 1-1/2 teaspoons black pepper (I use peppercorns that I grind up).

On the stove top on medium heat using your favorite skillet add milk and flour (I usually combine these two in a clean jar, shake and pour into the skillet), add light cream while stirring (you’ll be doing a lot of stirring), add black pepper, once thickened add bacon pieces, stir again. We use homemade biscuits cut in half and I ladle the bacon milk gravy over the top.

Dig in! Enjoy!

Welcome to The Wiser Cook – Smarter Cooking Site!

Great to have you stop by today to visit! This site as my other ones will be fun and exciting and you will learn so much. Cooking is enjoyable and a daily function for many including myself. I do not look at it as a chore, hindrance to my existence. Many people just get bored or in a rut with cooking the same thing over and over again. I will not let you do that! I will keep the easy recipes plentiful for you and fun to make and eat.

Smarter cooking is about obtaining the freshest ingredients available to you. Having a stocked pantry and freezer. Yes, you read that correctly-freezer. Many times you will have leftovers and they can be easily placed in the freezer. All of my recipes are originals they have been tweaked, cooked, baked, grilled many times. None will be difficult to prepare. Easy instructions and readily available ingredients

From a novice-beginner cook to an experienced (home) cook we will do it together. I would like to share with you I do not fry foods (they at times can be saute), they are grilled or baked. I am allergic to garlic, you can adapt and use in any recipe you may like to add into. I am itching writing that LOL.

What I love is sharing recipes!
